“This young musician has a very bright future,” Wynton Marsalis said of Jorge Luis Pacheco. Pacheco, one of the leading pianists of Cuban jazz younger generation is coming from Havana. A virtuoso pianist, Pacheco is also a composer, arranger, percussionist and vocalist. Bringing to the stage a passionate, emotive theatrical performance, he captures the audience’s heart with his electrifying energy.
Pacheco has appeared worldwide, collaborating with Wynton Marsalis and the JLCO, Arturo O’Farrill, Lenny White, Dave Weckl, Richie Goods, Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Bobby Carcasses, and more. He has won numerous international awards and competitions, from the 2007 Havana JoJAzz Festival Award to the Audience Award and the Second Jury Award at the 2014 Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition. In 2017, with one of his original compositions, he won Best Solo and Performance Award at the Made in New York Jazz Competition.
His performances incorporate elements of classical music, mainly on the piano, with Afro-Cuban, Latin and South American motifs. He likes to add vocals to his piano playing at times and presenting his own version of famous Cuban music pieces. A true jazz artist, he brings together virtuosity and Cuban tradition, expressing a great and unique interpretive power that is deeply connected to ancient sources.
His performance, a dynamic Cuban jazz concert, is always surprising and captivating every audience. He can tap his feet feverishly, sing, and play with dazzling speed.
